GarageCal vs FixMyCar (WhoCanFixMyCar)

FixMyCar finds you strangers. GarageCal converts the people who already know you. If you are quiet, use both. If you are busy, only one of them should be costing you money.

FixMyCar, formerly WhoCanFixMyCar, is a quote marketplace. Drivers describe a job, garages quote, the driver picks. The site says more than 3.6 million drivers have used it, and it advertises an average driver saving of £110.75.

That saving figure is worth sitting with for a second, because it comes out of somewhere. A marketplace whose pitch to drivers is a lower price is, structurally, a pitch to compete on price. That can be exactly right when your bays are empty and quite wrong when they are not.

GarageCal does the opposite job. It does not find you anyone. It takes the people who already found you, through Google, a sign, or a neighbour, and lets them book without ringing. No quoting against other garages, no commission, no comparison.

Where a marketplace genuinely helps

  • Reach. Millions of drivers use it and none of them have heard of your garage. We cannot fix that.
  • It costs nothing until it produces work, which is a fair trade when next week is bare.
  • It is a real route to specialist work you might not otherwise be asked to quote for.
  • For a new garage with no website traffic and no customer list, it is one of the few ways to start.

Where your own booking page wins

  • Every customer who already knows your name, who should never cost you a fee to come back.
  • Anyone who found you on Google or drove past the sign, and would have rung if the phone were answered.
  • MOT reminders to your own list, rebooking in one tap and at your own price.
  • Any week where you are busy enough that you do not need to be the cheapest quote on a list.

Questions people actually ask

Should I leave FixMyCar?

Not necessarily, and this is not an either-or. The pattern that makes sense is using a marketplace to fill genuinely quiet weeks while making sure your existing customers never arrive through a channel that charges you for them.

Will GarageCal get me more customers?

Not on its own, and we would rather say so plainly. It converts demand you already have. Getting found is a different job, mostly your Google Business Profile and local search.

What does FixMyCar charge garages?

They operate on a fee or commission basis per job. Current rates are a question for them; we will not publish a number we cannot verify.
